SCALE OF THE UNIVERSE 3 - THIRD EDITION ADDENDUM 3 November 2026 This edition retains all 37 reference stages and the original attribution below. Cinema combines 17 matching source-scene sequences, six new AI illustrations and live Three.js geometry. Explore 3D retains orbitable models for every stage. Five original Blender scenes were reframed and rendered anew at 1600 x 1000: cell, DNA, haemoglobin, Moon and Earth. Source .blend files remain unchanged. Their original render engines, models, materials, lights and data were retained; camera sensor fit, focal length, output framing and selected frame range changed. The Cycles cell render uses 48 samples, OptiX and denoising. Other source engines retain their settings. Each output has a render manifest and source SHA-256 in assets/cinematic/wide/. The originals remain in Interactive/assets/phases/. AI ART Six artist impressions: ant, blue whale, E. coli, influenza, a Himalayan terrain illustration and a Milky Way analogue. A generated deep-space atmosphere is also included. Created using OpenAI image generation for this project. These are not observed specimens, photographs, surveyed terrain or scientific data. Exact prompts: assets/cinematic/GENERATED-ART.json. The Moon derivative uses the source NASA LROC colour composite. Jupiter uses the existing Solar System Scope texture, CC BY 4.0; the derivative changes resolution only. Source: https://www.solarsystemscope.com/textures/ Earth derivatives use the existing NASA Blue Marble assets. Original attribution and scientific qualifications: SCIENCE-AND-CREDITS.txt. The Three.js post-processing, gyroid-volume opening, live galaxy, wave-field, parallax and film-loop code were authored for this edition. No React Bits or HyperFrames implementation was copied. The seven reference repositories and actual application of their ideas are documented in defense.html. The requested title is an independent project title. It does not imply this is an official sequel to Cary Huang's work or endorsed by its creators. PREVIOUS EDITION CREDITS (retained for provenance) ================================================ THE SCALE OF EVERYTHING — CREDITS AND LICENCES ================================================================================ An interactive field guide across 62 orders of magnitude. Scientific sources and the stated limits of every illustration are in SOURCES.txt. This file covers assets, software and licences only. INSPIRATION -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The Scale of the Universe 2" by Cary Huang, ported to Pixi.js by Matthew Martori: https://htwins.net/scale2/ That project established this genre. This is an independent rebuild and is not an official sequel or an affiliated project. None of its artwork, text or application source is used here. ARTWORK -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most of the 37 scenes are generated procedurally in the browser at run time, from a deterministic pseudo-random seed, using original geometry and original GLSL shaders written for this project. Three scenes use prepared assets: assets/cell.glb (42 meshes, ~401 000 triangles) An authored Blender model of a eukaryotic cell with illustrative ultrastructure, carrying baked base-colour, roughness and normal maps. It is an interpretation, not a reconstruction of any particular imaged cell. assets/dna.glb (5 meshes, ~202 000 triangles) Built on the deposited atomic coordinates of PDB entry 1BNA, the synthetic Drew-Dickerson B-DNA dodecamer. Element colours and displayed atomic radii are illustrative conventions, not measured quantities. Drew et al. (1981), RCSB PDB / wwPDB https://www.rcsb.org/structure/1BNA https://doi.org/10.2210/pdb1BNA/pdb https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.78.4.2179 RCSB archive data usage policy (CC0): https://www.rcsb.org/pages/policies assets/earth-day-4096.jpg and assets/earth-clouds-4096.jpg NASA Blue Marble day and cloud composites, shown as separate surface and cloud layers. These are historical composites, not live weather and not a single exposure; cloud height, opacity and drift are visual choices. NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Reto Stockli, land, shallow-water and cloud imagery; Robert Simmon, processing, compositing and visualisation. MODIS instrument teams supplied data and support; topography from USGS. https://science.nasa.gov/earth/earth-observatory/the-blue-marble-true-color-global-imagery-at-1km-resolution/ NASA media usage guidelines: https://www.nasa.gov/nasa-brand-center/images-and-media/ NASA does not endorse this project. assets/earth.jpg — a downsampled copy of the same NASA day composite, kept for reference; the application does not load it. If any asset above is missing, that scene falls back to a fully procedural stand-in built from original shaders, and the on-screen readout says which it is: "AUTHORED 3D MODEL", "NASA SURFACE COMPOSITE" or "ILLUSTRATIVE MODEL". assets/eoc.png — the Engines of Creation emblem. The Engines of Creation name and emblem belong to their owner and are not covered by the licences below. Colour, internal detail, lighting, composition and motion are interpretive throughout. Each scene is independently framed for legibility; see SOURCES.txt for what each illustration does and does not claim. SOUND -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- assets/score.mp3 — an original procedural composition created for this project. No third-party recordings, samples or voices are used. Sound is off by default and is enabled only by the listener. TYPEFACES -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All three are bundled locally under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The full licence text for each accompanies its font file. Space Grotesk — Florian Karsten assets/SpaceGrotesk-OFL.txt DM Sans — Colophon Foundry et al. assets/DMSans-OFL.txt IBM Plex Mono — IBM assets/IBMPlexMono-OFL.txt SOFTWARE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- three.js r186 — MIT License. Full text in vendor/THREE-LICENSE.txt Includes the GLTFLoader addon and its BufferGeometryUtils and SkeletonUtils dependencies, under vendor/loaders/ and vendor/utils/, same licence. https://threejs.org/ GSAP 3 — Standard "No Charge" GSAP License. The bundled copyright header is retained unmodified in vendor/gsap.min.js https://gsap.com/community/standard-license/ Both are served from the local vendor/ directory. The application requires WebGL 2 and ES modules, and runs entirely client-side. SCOPE OF THESE LICENCES -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The licences above cover the third-party font and software components only. They are not a blanket licence to agency logos, to the Engines of Creation name or emblem, or to every item in this directory. NASA imagery terms are linked above. Keep this file, SOURCES.txt and the per-font OFL notices together with any copy, excerpt or adaptation of this work. INSIDE A LIVING CELL ? NOVEMBER 2026 Six Kling 4.0 generated video clips at 1080p, using five matching reference frames made with the built-in imagegen tool. Generated artist impressions; not microscopy. Cell journey source prompts, model settings, task IDs and scientific limitations: ../Kling-Ready/cell-journey/README.md. Browser assets: assets/cell-journey/. CELL TRANSCRIPTION STRUCTURE AND TEACHING MODEL PDB 1Y1W: Kettenberger, Armache and Cramer (2004), Complete RNA polymerase II elongation complex structure and its interactions with NTP and TFIIS, Molecular Cell 16:955-965. DOI: 10.1016/j.molcel.2004.11.040. https://www.rcsb.org/structure/1Y1W Measured Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) coordinates, 4 angstrom X-ray structure. Local original: assets/cell-journey/1Y1W.pdb. Derived C-alpha residue envelope: polymerase-1y1w.json, with source hash. The visible cutaway is illustrative; the nucleic-acid paths, sequence, motion and timing are separately authored schematics, not a molecular-dynamics trajectory or a human polymerase structure. Supporting separation mechanism: Westover, Bushnell and Kornberg (2004), Structural basis of transcription: separation of RNA from DNA by RNA polymerase II, Science 303:1014-1016. https://www.rcsb.org/structure/1SFO DNA-to-RNA directionality: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK26887/ The older generated transcription loop remains archived, but is excluded from the active study. No additional Kling generations were used for the continuous-film and controlled-mechanics revision. CELL TO QUANTUM LIGHT - CURRENT KLING DELIVERY Five additional Kling 4.0 clips, 12 seconds each at 1080p, and five built-in imagegen reference frames. Exact prompts, job IDs, costs and limits: ../Kling-Ready/inner-scale/. Main atlas Cinema now uses the cell, DNA, atom and light films directly. The earlier controlled transcription geometry is retained as source history but excluded from the active route. Generated molecular and quantum imagery is illustrative, not a validated structural simulation.
